Until now! Like a lot of great food, their origins lie in India - where they’ve been a popular snack for years.
In fact they’re thought to be one of the oldest Aquatic crops in Eastern India, and have become something of a symbolic snack within their culture.
Our lotus seeds come from the roots of the plant, which can be found growing naturally in ponds and rivers across the country - nature’s answer to our snacking needs! To get from pond to pack, we work with aquatic farmers in Bihar, South India, where we sustainably harvest the lotus seeds, before leaving them to dry naturally in the sun. We then heat and pop each lotus seed to create the delicious, light and crunchy snack we love so much!
