We’re Charlie & Darcy,
the co-founders of Native Snacks.
Whilst our outfits don’t usually match, our love for broadening the UK’s snacking habits does. Having both tried the corporate world, we realised that we were much happier a little more off grid - whether that be helping to pick lotus seeds in Bihar or discussing jackfruit with farmers in ______. And so Native Snacks was born; combining our love for travel, food, our planet and the enjoyment of sharing something special with others.
HOW DID NATIVE BEGIN?
IT ALL STARTED IN INDIA…
We never really planned on starting a business - it was as spontaneous as the best nights you never remember. We had been working in London for __ years, and planned a __ week trip across India as a break from the everyday, and because India seemed as far from the typical tourist routes we we could find.
LOVE AT FIRST TASTE
Whilst staying with _____ in _____, we tried popped lotus seeds for the first time. In India, popped lotus seeds are regarded highly, and are said to be too ‘delicate’ for restaurants to cook en masse. To taste the real deal, you have to be visiting a family home. We couldn’t believe we’d never tried, never mind heard of these snacks before. It was exactly what we wanted from a savoury snack - unbelievably good nutritionals, addictively crunchy and none of those hard kernels that end up in the bottom of the popcorn bag.
TO THE UK WE GO!
The rest of our travels revolved mostly around plotting. What started as one of those sort of ridiculous, ‘what if’ ideas became our reality about __ weeks after we landed back in the UK. That post-travel blues were worse than ever, and with that ‘what if’ stuck in our heads, it was only __ weeks until we were back on a plane to India to start talks about production. We both worked in a food truck back in London (rent still needed to be paid!) and scurried away behind the scenes getting packaging printed and finalising the details. ___ months later, we officially launched our popped lotus seeds in the UK.
